Description
Summary:We investigated surface morphology and stacking structure of bilayers for DMPC lipid films with and without NaI additive on silicon substrates by using atomic force microscopy, X-ray reflectivity, and neutron reflectivity. Both the DMPC films with and without NaI form terrace-like morphology on their surface and the bilayer stacking highly-oriented along the direction parallel to the film surface. The typical size of the terrace-like morphology was enlarged by NaI addition. Also, it was suggested from the change in the repeat distance of the bilayer stacking that the addition of NaI molecules suppresses the penetration of water molecules into the DMPC film from air.
