Description
Summary:[...]competition between researchers fuels a reluctance to share data, for fear that some unearthed discovery would be lost to others when the data is shared openly.2 Meanwhile, the frustration of patients upon learning that their data have been willfully withheld in the hopes of advancing the career of individual scientists cannot be overstated. Research data do not align to this same system, and instead open data sharing is blocked upfront, which continually impedes the advancement of health care. Researchers, patients, and health-care systems are now realising the human cost and risks of not sharing data.
