Summary: | Various issues relating to turning the energy in the waves into usable power were discussed. Many attempts to design wave energy converter (WEC) devices were made in past, and many failed due to the hostile environment that the devices had to endure. ABB was globally committed to developing environmental friendly energy solutions based on renewable resources. Fred Olsen had proved that his wave power projects were realistic, but he had to prove its competitiveness. The margins of the oil and gas industry did not apply to wave power. The construction, operation and maintenance costs should be minimized and the power output maximized to ensure profitable long-term operation. |
