Summary: | A review of experimental techniques which enable detection of electrons scattered in the backward direction, with an emphasis on recent developments in the magnetic angle-changing technique is presented. Results of measurements of differential cross sections for elastic electron scattering in the range of large scattering angles in rare gases and small molecules are discussed and compared with selected theoretical investigations. |
