Description
Summary:Nickel-graphite coatings were produced on mild steel substrates by atmospheric plasma spraying using nickel powders containing 15% graphite, in an argon/hydrogen atmosphere. The coatings were characterised by microstructural studies and measurements of mechanical properties. The hardness and elastic modulus, as determined by microhardness testing, were strongly dependent upon the degree of porosity, oxide content, inclusion content, and the proportions of unmelted and partially-melted particles. The phase composition, determined by XRD, was: Ni, C, Fe, Fe0.93Ni0.056 and Ni3C. 11 refs.
