Effect of Ga content on the magnetostriction and microstructure of Fe–Ga ribbons

The ribbons with different Ga contents were prepared by the melt-spun method. The maximum magnetostriction of −2100 ppm has been obtained in the ribbons with 17 at% Ga. Description
Summary:The ribbons with different Ga contents were prepared by the melt-spun method. The maximum magnetostriction of −2100 ppm has been obtained in the ribbons with 17 at% Ga. The microstructures of ribbons were determined by XRD and HRTEM. It was found that DO 3 structure and Ga-rich clusters emerge in those ribbons of Fe 83Ga 17 with wheel speed of 12 m/s. The Ga-rich clusters and modified DO 3 structure result in a giant magnetostriction of Fe–Ga alloy ribbons.
