Effect of zirconium and yttrium hydroxide precipitation conditions on the fractal structure of the resulting xerogels and 0.97ZrO2 · 0.03Y2O3 powders

We have investigated the effect of the preparation procedure (successive or simultaneous precipitation of zirconium and yttrium hydroxides) on the fractal structure of the resulting xerogels and fluorite-structure oxide nanopowders. Small-angle x-ray scattering data indicate that the xerogels and ox...

Description
Summary:We have investigated the effect of the preparation procedure (successive or simultaneous precipitation of zirconium and yttrium hydroxides) on the fractal structure of the resulting xerogels and fluorite-structure oxide nanopowders. Small-angle x-ray scattering data indicate that the xerogels and oxide nanopowders have, respectively, three-and two-level fractal structures. Mass-fractal aggregation is shown to improve the properties of the precipitates (good filterability and the formation of soft powders easy to disaggregate).
