Description
Summary:The feasibility for water reclamation from sewage in Turkey to meet water shortages, particularly in summer for agricultural and recreational use, is discussed. Re-use applications for agricultural irrigation and irrigation of parks in coastal tourist areas are considered. An example is included of the sewage reclamation plant serving Anatepe, a satellite town near Istanbul. Tabulated design criteria for the plant are included; treatment is by the extended-aeration activated sludge process, with filtration and disinfection of the effluent. The potential for use of sewage effluents for agricultural irrigation along the coast of southwest Anatolia is discussed. Standards for re-use of sewage and industrial effluents for irrigation are tabulated.
