PHOTOLUMINESCENCE PROPERTIES OF ALPHA-SIALON:Eu2+ PREPARED BY CARBOTHERMAL REDUCTION AND NITRIDATION METHOD

Carbothermal reduction and nitridation was used to prepare Ca-alpha-SiAlON:Eu2+ phosphor (Ca1-xEuxAl2Si10N16) from CaCO3, Eu2O3, Al2O3, and Si3N4. The as-prepared samples were heated again at 1600 C in a carbon-free atmosphere (high-purity N2) to decrease the residual carbon content. The resulting C...

Description
Summary:Carbothermal reduction and nitridation was used to prepare Ca-alpha-SiAlON:Eu2+ phosphor (Ca1-xEuxAl2Si10N16) from CaCO3, Eu2O3, Al2O3, and Si3N4. The as-prepared samples were heated again at 1600 C in a carbon-free atmosphere (high-purity N2) to decrease the residual carbon content. The resulting Ca-alpha-SiAlON:Eu2+ phosphors with lowered carbon impurity showed the yellow emission band peaking at 585-605 nm and was intensified 2-3 times more by the above heat-treatment. A white light-emitting diode (LED) with a CIE chromaticity coordinate (x = 0.35, y = 0.32) was fabricated by using a blue LED chip (460 nm) together with Ca-alpha-SiAlON:Eu2+ and YAG:Ce3+ phosphors. 14 refs.
