Selective recovery of palladium from a simulated industrial wastewater by liquid surfactant membrane process
The removal of 60 ppm of palladium from an acidic wastewater containing about 25,000 ppm iron was investigated in both batch and continuous operations using a mixer-settler. Summary: | The removal of 60 ppm of palladium from an acidic wastewater containing about 25,000 ppm iron was investigated in both batch and continuous operations using a mixer-settler. Liquid surfactant membranes (LSM) containing MSP-8 (di-2-ethyhexylmonothiophosphoric acid) as a carrier were studied, as were the use of surfactants (Span80 and PX100) and a stripping agent (thiourea). MSP-8 plus PX100 is one of the most appropriate and efficient palladium recovery systems using LSM that are currently available. The MSP-8 was capable of selectively extracting palladium relative to iron ions, with PX100 producing a stable LSM at a relatively low concentration. |
