Description
Summary:A description is given of an anaerobic phased-recycled floc system (contact process) for the treatment of filtration waste waters from the manufacture of citric acid by fermentation of sugarbeet molasses. The performance of the treatment plant during the first 3 years of operation is summarized in tables and graphs. Unstable operation and low rate of removal of COD were attributed to the activity of acidogenic bacteria. The importance of the solids /liquid separation equipment for controlling loading and biomass concentration was demonstrated. Stable operation could be achieved only after a stable and sufficiently concentrated suspended floc was developed.
