Summary:This paper provides a review of a new class of synthetic absorbable polyesters, the ‘polyoxaesters’. We describe what they are and provide routes of preparation to the homopolymers, as well as their copolymers with lactones. Structure–property relationships are outlined and applications with commercial potential are discussed.
