Description
Summary:Interprofessional teamwork and collaboration are critical elements to ensuring safe and effective patient-centered care to older adults who require complex care for multiple chronic conditions.1 Health professional students typically learn within their own discipline, despite evidence that interprofessional experiences improve their attitudes, knowledge of, and comfort working with older adults.2 Creating engaging interprofessional learning activities for health professional students will introduce them to geriatric care principles and interprofessional collaboration competencies. However, few interprofessional activities within universities exist to prepare students for future careers in geriatrics. To help students gain these competencies the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Programs (GWEP) at Saint Louis University (SLU) and the University of Minnesota (UMN) established an inter-university geriatric case competition. We present an evaluation of students' attainment of competencies and participant satisfaction with recent competitions.
