Description
Summary:We describe an electrically tunable liquid crystal lens that can dynamically generate symmetric wavefront profiles. The curvature of these profiles may be inversed, enabling a bipolar response (focusing and defocusing). Different wavefronts, including non-monotonic, are predicted theoretically and demonstrated experimentally. The optical performance of the devices is characterized experimentally in an imaging scheme.
