Description
Summary:In the pandemic, “we watched our leaders, whether they were prime ministers or mayors of cities, struggle to make decisions because the data needed wasn't as accessible and usable as they would have liked”, recalls Chikwe Ihekweazu, WHO Assistant Director-General for the Division of Health Emergency Intelligence and Surveillance Systems. [...]how do we get better at connecting weather data, travel data, disease data, population data, in order to both assess the risk and vulnerability of people to new incidents?”, asks Ihekweazu. “Disparities in health infrastructure and resources between countries hinder effective data sharing and response efforts—political leadership is needed to bridge these gaps both for the Hub and pandemic prevention more broadly”, she says. “The World Bank's Pandemic Fund is under-resourced and lacks credibility in many lower-income countries”, Gostin notes.
