Eosinophils are sparse in homeostatic rectal tissue which impedes studying resident eosinophils

•Little is known on the amount of resident eosinophils in homeostatic tissues.•Using minimally invasive biopsy, only scarse eosinophils were found in the rectal tissue of completely healthy individuals.•This has major implications for studying resident eosinophils in healthy individuals.
