Description
Summary:In order to observe the habitats of the Anatolian banded newt ( Ommatotriton nesterovi ), field studies were carried out in a total of 11 different localities in Samsun, Zonguldak, Bartın, and Karabük provinces, and 12 ones in Trabzon and Rize provinces for the Caucasian banded newt ( Ommatotriton ophryticus ). MaxEnt modeling was performed in order to test the compatibility of the information obtained in field studies with the results obtained as a result of modeling. The coordinate data from of a total of 95 separate localities belonging to the O. nesterovi that exist in the literature and were obtained in this study, and 43 ones belonging to the O. ophryticus were used. When the data obtained from field observations and modeling in this study are evaluated together, it is understood that the Anatolian banded newt endemic to Türkiye chooses places with lower altitude and areas with lower slopes and forest that do not receive much direct sunlight takes an important place in the habitat preference of this species compared to the Caucasian banded newt distributed in Türkiye, Georgia, Russia, and Armenia.
