Summary:This paper presents a property of the complementary error function that to the best of our knowledge has not been widely recognised. Meanwhile, this property can be useful for solving some practical problems in communications. Some examples where it can be utilised are problems of bit error rate (BER) performance evaluation in multi-hop communication systems and low-complexity adaptive power allocation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM).
