Summary: | Experimental and numerical studies are carried out on crimped mixed metal-composite joints integrated in electrical insulators subject to bending. Strain monitoring is performed with strain gauges and a six-channel acoustic emission equipment to shed light in the process of damage until failure and several 3D nonlinear finite element models are constructed to compare the experimental results in strains and damage with the numerical predictions. Excellent agreement is found between the two sets of data and the different damage mechanisms observed are reported. |
