Description
Summary:Evolution of dendrite morphology in Fe-base alloys was simulated by using the phase-field method and complexity of the dendrite morphology was evaluated by fractal dimensions and dimensionless perimeter of dendrites. It was shown that the both parameters of the fractal dimension and the dimensionless perimeter are effective to evaluate the complexity of dendrites. Factors controlling the dendrite morphology such as materials properties, composition and cooling rate were investigated by the simulation. Permeability of simulated dendrite array was estimated from the fractal dimension and the dimensionless perimeter, and obtained permeability corresponded to reported values of the permeability for metallic alloy systems.
