Summary: | The present study employed an objective assessment methodology to investigate the effectiveness of instructions, self-monitoring, and practice in teaching young adult heavy drinkers a specific moderate drinking style. The results, specific to young male (age 19–24) heavy social drinkers, indicate that the practice training procedure was superior to the other two training procedures. Implications for the treatment of alcohol abuse as well as the development of preventive programs designed to teach beginning drinkers responsible drinking behavior are discussed. |
