Summary: | In the medical field, genetics is routinely used to diagnose diseases and to understand malfunctions at the molecular level. The active approach of trying to amend genetic defects or insufficiencies is a logical step. Major elements in successful advance of gene therapy are identification of the disease and target cells, tissues and organs as well as construction of appropriate gene vectors, effective gene transfer and expression in targeted cells. Researchers with either strong backgrounds in molecular biology or lipids are currently involved in this area as practically all the existing reviews can testify. Thus, this review introduces both cationic liposomes as well as gene expression, and a combination of the two disciplines. |
