Summary: | The performance of carbon, PVA and steel microfibres on alkali silica reaction (ASR) were investigated. Two series of mortar specimens containing different amounts of microfibres were cast. One of the series was cured in accordance with the ASTM C1260 test method, while the other series was additionally cured at 23 C in water for 14 days before the standard ASTM C1260 curing period. Extended curing was found to be effective in reducing ASR expansion in all of the mixtures containing any type of microfibres. This may be due to enhancement of matrix-microfibre bonding. ASR expansion was reduced by increasing the microfibre content in the specimens subjected to extended curing. |
