Summary: | INTRODUCTION: The operational military environment presents a variety of environmental and physiological stressors that can significantly influence the effectiveness and task performance of the individual. Perhaps the most damaging effects to the successful outcome of the mission are those attributed to sleep deprivation-induced fatigue. Consequently, there is increasing interest in the development of reliable monitoring devices that can easily assess when the operator or soldier may be overly fatigued resulting in dangerous performance levels. Eye-Corn, Inc. has developed a wearable eye-tracker instrumented in an eyeglass-like apparatus. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the device for monitoring operator status in both a manned and unmanned flight simulation environment during one night of sleep deprivation. |
