Characterization of olivine single crystals grown by the micro-pulling-down method and terrestrial olivine by XPS, Mössbauer, magnetic and EPR methods

The chemical composition, crystal and electronic structure and magnetic properties of the (Mg1‐x Fex )2SiO4 olivines (nominal x=0.060 and 0.091), synthetic and terrestrial (Lower Silesia, Poland) were investigated by X‐ray diffraction, photoelectron and Mössbauer spectroscopy, electron spin resonanc...

Description
Summary:The chemical composition, crystal and electronic structure and magnetic properties of the (Mg1‐x Fex )2SiO4 olivines (nominal x=0.060 and 0.091), synthetic and terrestrial (Lower Silesia, Poland) were investigated by X‐ray diffraction, photoelectron and Mössbauer spectroscopy, electron spin resonance and magnetostatic methods. It was found that in synthetic olivines the carbon, proceed from starting materials, located in the Mg sites lead to distortion of the crystal lattice. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
