Description
Summary:Recent interest in polymer/organoclays systems is motivated by the possibility of enhanced properties and added functionality at clay loading as compared to conventional micron fillers. Addition of montmorillonite clay to 6 increases the Young's modulus and yield and also improves barrier properties. of polyamide 6 with montmorillonite clay were The clay was chemically modified with three quaternary ammonium salts such as: Dodigen, and Cetremide. A dispersion of Na-MMT was stirred a salt equivalent to 1:1 of cation exchange of Na-MMT was added to the dispersion. The clay (untreated and treated by ammonium salts) the nanocomposites were characterised by XRD. The were also characterised by TEM and mechanical All the quaternary ammonium salts were between the layers of clay, leading to an of the interlayer spacing. The nanocomposites better mechanical properties when compared to 6. The clay acted as reinforcing filler, the rigidity of the nanocomposites and decreasing ductility.
