Description
Summary:We have studied Verwey transition in NbxFe(3-2x)O4, which is prepared by solid state reaction at 1000 deg C. A careful investigation on the influence of Nb5+ in niobium magnetite was carried out by both Mossbauer Effect (ME) and AC susceptibility measurements as a function of the temperature. A reduction transition temperature Tv in the range 97 < T(K) < 100 has been established with a growing ion concentration for mole fractions 0 < x < 0.250. In pure synthetic magnetite, a first order transitions appears at Tv = 123.5 K. In particular, the result of our Mossbauer measurements for a sample with x = 0.050 indicate a gradual alterations in the Mossbauer spectra, and the Verwey transition temperature Tv was found in the range of Tv = 98+/-1 K.
