Summary:The $84 million Florida Aquarium is a brightly colored, three-level, 152,000 sq ft structure that combines striking architecture, realistic exhibits, clever engineering and the latest in aquatic technology to tell Florida's water story. This aquarium features a shell-shaped, long-span steel roof and high-performance concrete exhibit tanks containing more than 1 million gal. of fresh and salt water. Construction of the project began in September 1992, and in March 31, 1995, the aquarium was opened.
