Description
Summary:Consumer and personal care products may have multiple forms, uses, and exposure scenarios. their uses are often associated with a range of intended exposure routes (e.g., oral, dermal, and inhalation), frequencies and durations. Given the large number of products and possible associated consumer exposure scenarios to chemical ingredients, a priority setting process is needed to identify consumer product ingredients and use scenarios for which more detailed exposure and risk assessment may be needed to adequately characterize consumers' exposures and risks to product ingredients. Use and exposure data have been compiled and provided for High Production Volume (HPV) ingredients in consumer products allowing exposure screening. The probabilistic approach combined with exposure metric (e.g., daily, seasonal, annual, lifetime averages) relevant to the toxicological end-points of interest and the effects of underlying dosing response conditions (e.g., acute, subchronic, chronic, and time to effect if known) are potentially useful refinement approaches beyond the scope of screening.
