Summary:This article uses macro data to analyze the impact of macroeconomic growth on poverty reduction in Azerbaijan, and then to study the effect of sectoral status on the risk of being poor. Our results suggest a small correlation between economic growth and poverty reduction in Azerbaijan. The effect of employment on poverty reduction differs across economic sectors. Evidence of an insignificant relationship between economic growth and new jobs is also provided.
