Symbolism and Modern Human Origins [and Comments and Reply]
An examination of evidence from all of the sites earlier than the Upper Paleolithic that have yielded remains identified as morphologically modern humans reveals no indication of symbolic behavior. Comments and a reply to this study are presented.
