The Paradox of Timbre
Fales proposes a theory of timbre that addresses its role in the larger sensation of musical sound. There are three characteristics of timbre that contribute to its role in music: a link to the external world, a primary instrument of perception, and as an unconscious parameter of musical phenomena.
