Description
Summary:On the northwestern coast of California, the coho salmon is in such decline that it was recently listed as a threatened species in all of California. In response to the need for conservation of the coho salmon, the Resources Agency of California is pressing for the establishment of a Natural Community Conservation Planning (NCCP) process which may be adopted by National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) under section 4(d) of the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This article discusses the NCCP process and its potential for the protection and conservation of the threatened coho salmon.
