Summary: | Three aspects of recent research on the effect of international trade on labor markets are addressed. Recent research on trade's contribution to rising wage inequality between more-skilled and less-skilled workers is surveyed. Despite unresolved methodological differences, the current consensus is that trade accounts for a positive yet relatively small share of rising inequality. Some important limitations of the current understanding of trade's effects on labor-market outcomes are discussed. Research to date is linked to policy issues regarding both labor demand and labor supply. |
