Summary: | For improving the overall energy efficiency of public buildings, an innovative envelope system, called the Transparent Water Storage Envelope (TWSE), has been developed through theoretical analyses. TWSE is an adjustable curtain wall with seasonal dimorphism. The major advancement of this technology is to form a stage that enables better thermal stability in summer as well as to provide more effective heat insulation in winter. Its intrinsic transparency feature also allows sufficient daylight to enter buildings. During conceptual development, some analyses were conducted on the technical details of system design, operational features and functions related with maintenance, aiming to make this technical conception more cogent as a whole. This paper reports on the conceptual background and development of the transparent water storage envelope system. |
