Summary:In January 2003 the Swedish Government commissioned the National Institute for Public Health (NIPH) and the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (FAS) to carry out a status report on Swedish public health research. The report was to include an inventory of ongoing research and research environments as well as an evaluation of Swedish public health research. This status report consists of three parts. Part 1 is a historical overview of public health research in Sweden. Part 2 describes the results of the inventory of public health research. Part 3 is a description of the process and results of the evaluation written by the group of international experts in the areas of public health selected to carry out the evaluation.
