Summary: | In the past, instruction in major programming languages such as PL/I has been restricted to mainframes. However, recent improvements in microcomputer hardware and software permit the use of this and other languages on the smaller machines. Because PL/I has been a popular language, both for applications and instruction in library and information science, it seemed an appropriate choice for study using microcomputers in a classroom setting. The Digital Research compiler, PL/I-86, was chosen for use on a variety of MS-DOS and PC-DOS micros. |
