Summary:Introduces a supplement containing a series of conceptual and methodologically based papers that emerged from the multisite research study, the HIV/AIDS Treatment Adherence, Health Outcomes and Cost Study to investigate the efficacy of integrated interventions for HIV primary care, mental health and substance abuse on adherence, health outcomes and costs. Although these papers cover a wide range of topics related to people who are multiply diagnosed, they all coalesce around common themes that focus on HIV disease as a chronic illness, the impact of neuropsychiatric and substance use comorbidities on HIV disease and the development of integrated interventions for comprehensive HIV care.
