Description
Summary:The present study was undertaken to investigate subject access to videos provided by keyword searching of OCLC using the EPIC service and to compare OCLC EPIC with other video reference tools. Findings clearly indicate the superiority of EPIC as a tool for subject access to videos. They also show that other reference tools can and do provide listings not found in OCLC. Furthermore, findings demonstrate the value of keyword searching, the deficiencies of subject indexes that use overly broad subject headings, and the value of controlled vocabularies, analytic entries, contents, and summary notes in an age of computer-accessible catalogs. Problem areas are noted and suggestions are made for further research.
