Summary: | We have beta-tested three commercially available desktop video-conferencing systems that provide audio and video control and that transmit images of both the work itself and the participants who are carrying out the work. In this article we describe the design of these systems; how college students, acting as mentors for high school students, have used them; and factors to consider when structuring and maintaining distant meeting environments. To structure distance-meeting environments, collaborators need to follow an approach that addresses social and technological factors. |
