Summary: | Using data on attitudes to measure political integration, it was found that political integration and suicide are negatively associated for the elderly in nine western European countries from 1975 to 1989. Also associated with elderly suicide are the divorce rate and deaths due to cirrhosis of the liver. Religious book production, however, was not found to be associated with suicide in the normative manner. Reasons for these associations are discussed. |
