Description
Summary:Plasma PCB levels were measured in 173 children at 3.5 yrs, of whom 91 were breastfed. Median plasma PCB levels were 3.6 times higher in the breastfed children. Breastfeeding period and breastmilk PCB levels were important predictors for PCB levels in the breastfed group. For children in the formula-fed group, PCB levels were significantly related to their maternal plasma PCB levels. Since PCB levels are thus found to be related to transfer of maternal PCB, strategies should aim to reduce maternal PCB body burden. (Original abstract - amended)
