Summary:Data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System indicate an approximately 5% increase in overweight and a 2.5 % increase in severe overweight in the US between 1987-1993. Reports a similar analysis using data from the 1983, 1990/91 and 1994 Italian National Health Surveys, based on a complete multistage probability sampling design. The data indicate that the prevalence of overweight and obesity was lower in Italy, but it has increased in Italy by 5.5% in men and by 3.7% in women.
