Summary:A minority of Leeds mesothelioma cases had a direct or indirect occupational link to a particular factory, but most deaths occurred in people employed in other occupations where contact with asbestos was likely or possible. However, the finding of a number of mesothelioma cases with no known exposure to asbestos via occupational or household contact routes points to the need for a further controlled study to estimate the risks of non-occupational asbestos exposure.
