Summary: | A report of a literature language program demonstrating a successful method of expanding the language repertoire of linguistically different Black kindergarten children to include standard English. The value of language expansion (the broadening of one's language stock), as opposed to language substitution (the subjugation of one dialect for another) was confirmed. Common differences between standard English and nonstandard Black dialect which may cause interference for the nonstandard speaker, may be successfully identified and modified, thus lessening the degree of interference.
