Summary: | Lists of high or low taxonomic frequency were divided into 6 4-item sets held constant across successive trials presented to 6 groups of 16 U Colorado undergrads. The sets varied across conditions in the number of categorical repetitions per set (none, 1, 2, or 3); the items within the sets were presented successively or simultaneously. The purpose was to see whether the facilitative effect of blocked presentation was the result of input order focusing attention to semantic structure, or vice-versa. The data indicate that it was the former. The results are interpreted as supporting the general position that input order acts as a moderator variable & semantic structure as the primary determinant of performance. HA |
