Description
Summary:The Portuguese language stands in fourth position as a medium of international shortwave radio broadcasting. A shortwave receiver can be effectively used in classroom or language laboratory as a teaching aid for Portuguese. Reception is possible from Portugal, Brazil, and from non-Portuguese-speaking nations broadcasting in Portuguese, including the Voice of America. Portuguese culture is also broadcast from Lisbon in English. Certain times and frequencies provide reception, and are listed. Communications receivers provide advantages in reception. The place of installation in the laboratory is significant. In New England and California, Portuguese may also be heard on domestic AM or FM radio. Shortwave radio provides a live, direct link with the target language and culture. AA
