Description
Summary:Teaching English Today sets out to be a conventional & responsible text, in that it takes precautions against experimentation; thus, it will probably appeal to conservative & middle-of-the road English teachers. The section on teaching written composition is precise & the examples of student writing are well-chosen. The chapter on oral language is the most original & successful. Grounded in diverse theories, some practical suggestions are given about teaching oral English. The chapter on teaching literature is heavily response-oriented. Its central concept is based on teaching the right kind of literature to the right kind of students at the right time. Surprisingly, the most conventional chapter is on non-print media, here, the media for instructional aids & lesson media are fully elaborated. Compared with other recent texts on teaching method, this particular one is the most complete. Y. Chou
