Although reading & learning disability personnel differ in training, as well as in the philosophical approach to educating children, specialists in 1 area often service both areas. In order to compare responsibilities associated with the 2 positions in actual practice, a questionnaire was developed & administered to a random sample of certified personnel in both specialties. The role responsibilities of reading & learning disabilities personnel did not show significant differences on 34 of the 39 functions investigated; the remaining 5 functions showed that the learning disabilities personnel perform 5 roles to a greater extent than do the reading personnel studied. It is concluded that either of these types of personnel can adequately service both areas. J. Schwarz
