Description
Summary:Paper presented at the Nijmegen Colloquium on the History of Arabic Grammar, U of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, 16-19 Apr 1984. The concept of the NP with masdar as its head elaborated by the fourteenth-century Arab grammarian 'Abu Hayyan has been largely ignored. It is shown that he developed a coherent concept of masdar structures consisting of a single one-level, one-headed type, with two variants, rather than the three distinct types proposed by other grammarians. 13 References.
